Who am I?

I just turned 30 this year. I'm not rich, I don't like my job (Industrial Engineer), I don't talk much, I don't have many friends (but I have a few quality ones though) and my best friend is my guitar (but now I think my laptop is going to become my new best friend). If not because of emails and yahoo groups/messenger, I wouldn't have social life. I asked myself, why am I not happy with my job? Why I have not achieved my goals? Then, it clicked. Jeng! Jeng! Jeng! Maybe I'm not happy with my job because I wasn't born to do that job. Maybe I have not achieved my goals because I hadn't been the person I was born to be.

So, who am I? I looked back at my childhood years and I found that I was a... geek. And I grew up trying not to be one. Actually I did love my job. When I joined the company, it didn't have... so many things. I designed the dept. website, I developed the Static and Dynamic Applications and designed the IE database. After 7 years, my boss told me, "It's time to move up. Talk more and make yourself more visible, especially to the management". I'm required to attend meetings. So far, I found that whatever their decisions or discussions, 80% of them make no sense to me. Maybe because I don't understand their language. My performance is dropping. I'm not happy. So, now I decided to be the person I used to be when I was a child. I wanna be my kidself again. I wanna bring back the geek in me. You might ask, what is the meaning of geek actually? I found this defination from knowledgerush.com:
  • A derogatory term for one with low social skills, often with high intelligence. It is theorised that many of these people have Asperger's Syndrom. Late 20th Century.
  • A person who is into technology, especially computing and new media. Comparable with the classic definition of hacker. Late 20th Century and early 21st Century.
  • A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest.

It seems that the meaning of geek changes nearly every century. Anyway, I think I'm a combination of all the three definations except that I don't have Asperger's Syndrom and I'm also not a hacker. Knowing who I am now has changed the way I approach my daily life.

Now, a new journey has begun. The Geekosaurus Quest to Be Rich!

May the geek be with you...
